Update:So this image has just been driving me crazy. The Eulogy version seemed to turn off most people with its gore and it wasn't very eye-catching. This version was more eye-catching but had a poor composition (and the lack of background bugs me). So I've been torn between which version to put in the portfolio and it always just rode the edge of being considered for the portfolio. I decided it was better to be grab attention that to have a background so I decided to re-visit this in the hopes of improving on the old composition and making it a portfolio piece. C&C is always welcome. To see more of my work visit [link] .
Really cool Joe! And the color scheme is gorgeous. I love the bumpy arms. You painted them well. Nice subtle visions in the smoke too. The painting makes me wonder about this character a lot, which is awesome.

Glad you like and thanks for the fav! He's cursed and immortal so he's just lived through horrible stuff like burning, torture, infection, disease, etc. He became a monk and become one with nothingness in order to remain sane. He also does some throat-singing where he tells cryptic stories.
Great painting Joe! The personalities and situations are quite different, but he reminds me of a character I came up with a few years ago who was cursed with magic flame and couldn't die by fire, but he still suffered horrible pain and scarring. He actually became a circus performer, among other things.
Anyway, great piece and I love reading your descriptions of him. Well done!
